The 2009 Emmys! Don’t Worry, You Didn’t Miss Anything.

With a few rare exceptions, tonight’s Emmys were completely unwatchable. Mostly, the show suffered from a simple case of trying too much. Neil Patrick Harris, Jon Stewart was lying to you: you were boring and terrible, and none of your attempts at comedy were funny to anyone outside of the academy. Jimmy Fallon’s Kanye parody was almost funny, or would have been had it either been cut short or elaborated on with a little more than a microphone. Sarah McLachlan’s performance honoring the fallen in the entertainment world was heartfelt and poignant, but if the highlight of an awards ceremony is the part where they list the dead people, it’s time to go back to the drawing board.

For next year, I highly suggest bringing Kanye West on board to host the ceremony and berate all the winners as they receive their awards- imagine communist sympathizer Alec Baldwin being interrupted mid-windbag speech to be told Steve Carell should have won (he should have)! Sure, the “interrupting Kanye” fad may be dead by this time next year, but that won’t make it any less enjoyable to watch Jon Stewart cringe and he gets told that his protege, Stephen Colbert, is the real genius of the Daily Show bunch.

  1. I like NPH, but he did seem a little too pleased with himself, like a kid in a candy store.

  2. yeah, i agree, they weren’t that fun to watch….

  3. Kanye’s 15 are waaaaay over.

The presentation was fairly well done. Sure beats ones of the past where it’s all business and no entertainment.
