Union City High School welcomes professionals on Career Day!
Union City High School Senior Carolina Tejada and Union City Comissioner and CEO od North Hudson Community Action Corp. Chris Irizarry, pose for Rafaelmartel.com during Career Day.
More than 100 professionals representing a large spectrum of the work force visited the brand new Union City High School today on a volunteer basis to offer seminars about their respective careers. CEO’s, lawyers, medical assistants, journalists and veterinarians, among many others, spent the morning teaching our High School students and answering questions about today’s careers and the opportunities and advantages an specialization and a solid education brings. The visitors expressed their appreciation for the advanced technology building. “The advantages our kids have with this new facility are unmatched in the history of Union City”, said Chris Irizarry, CEO-President of North Hudson Community Action Corporation, and Union City Commissioner. Irizarry is a lifelong resident of Union City.
Police Officer Paul Jauregui, who happens to be work on a daily basis with our students, explained to a crowded class the opportunities and the responsibilities of being in public service. “It’s all here for them, the incredible technology, the teachers, the support, all of us pulling together, working together for them. All is in place for their success”, UCPO Jauregui said referring to our students. Paul Jauregui and his brother Felipe came to Union City in the late 60’s from Communist Cuba. Like most Cubans, they brought a few clothes in the suitcases and no money but through hard work, dedication and a long tradition of values-following the example of their parents-they are both successful and respected professionals contributing to the well being of our community.
Hudson County legendary lawyer Libero Marotta got students involved in a constructive debate in his presentation. Forever young, Marotta engaged the questions of the young man and women of Union City and later he expressed his admiration for the new building. UCHS is an initiative of Mayor Brian Stack, who inaugurated the building in September 2010.
