West New York mayor Felix Roque now supports Senator Robert Menendez for senate after backing his “friend” Joe Kyrillos!-The Jersey Journal reports

West New York Mayor Dr. Felix Roque, under pressure from the Hudson County Democratic Organization, announced today that he is switching his endorsement from Joe Kyrillos to Robert Menendez in a New Jersey U.S. Senate race.

In what may be one of the shortest news conference ever, Roque said “I’m a military man so I listen to commands when they come down to me. So I feel it’s in the best interests in the community of West New York to support Sen. Robert Menendez.”

Roque then added that he didn’t feel well and refused to take questions. Roque made the announcement at his Together We Can campaign office on Palisade Avenue. He was accompanied by Commissioners Count Wiley and FiorD’Aliza Frias and assistant Town Attorney Joe DeMarco.

Roque made no reference to Kyrillos, the New Jersey state senator who he endorsed in early February. Calls and emails to Kyrillos were not immediately returned.

It has been reported that the HCDO refused to give the county line to Roque’s list of 58 committee people for the June primary. It has also been widely reported, including here, that the FBI has been to West New York at least twice in the past week, interviewing Roque and at least one school official.

Menendez, the former Union City mayor, has been a senator since 2006.
