The mayor of Guttenberg and his wife were convicted on three corruption counts in federal court this afternoon.

Mayor David Delle Donna and First Lady Anna Delle Donna were found guilty of one count each of conspiracy to commit extortion and two counts each of filing false tax returns, Jersey Journal staff writer Michaelangelo Conte reports from the Newark courthouse.

The Delle Donnas face up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines on the extortion charge and up to three years in prison and $100,000 in fines on the tax charges.

The couple were acquitted of two counts each of mail fraud.

When the verdicts were read, the couple’s son jumped up and complained about a justice system that would let star witness Luisa Medrano go free in exchange for her testimony.

Their daughter, 17-year-old Dorothy who had testified in their behalf, sobbed loudly.
