New Ringtalk Article: 90s Heavyweights Revisited

By Frances Martel

IN NEED OF A FEW GOOD BIG MEN

I once wrote a piece on heavyweights recalling the days when Evander “Real Deal” Holyfield was more than fond memory- he was a living legend, a role model, and a quality video game. In the same piece, I concluded that, much like Marxist class warfare, the overthrow of the current ruling class needed to occur naturally, with today’s pudgy heavies eventually overthrown by a crop of young fighters. At the time, I knew I was not the only one that held the current champs in high contempt, but little did I know Evander Holyfield (42-8-2, 27 KOs) himself would disturb the flow of boxing class structure in a revolution that includes ex-champions Riddick Bowe (42-1, 33 KOs), David Tua (48-3-1, 41 KOs), and maybe even Lennox Lewis (41-2-1, 32 KOs).
