Union City, NJ- Labor Day Weekend, for many Americans, is a dreaded holiday. Sure, families enjoy the opportunity to frolic on beaches, grill in parks, and gray their hair on clogged highways. Yet behind sunny smiles, spirits deflate as the needle of autumn monotony pops their vacation bubble, eliminating white from the dress code and lazy from the official palette of emotions. For boxing enthusiasts, however, the departure of August’s asphyxiating heat signals the arrival of an avalanche of exciting fights. With September instantly came confirmation that all our dreams were not in vain, as WBO light welterweight (140 lbs.) champion Ricardo Torres (32-1, 28 KOs) refused American opponent Kendall Holt (22-2, 12 KOs) a victory, stealing the fight out from under him with an eleventh round knockout.
